Grant Description

The Women’s Giving Network of Wake County (WGN) is a philanthropic giving circle operating under the umbrella of the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF). Since its founding in 2006, WGN has awarded over $1.9 million in grants to charitable organizations that support women and children in Wake County, North Carolina. The Network pools tax-deductible contributions from its members to collectively support nonprofit initiatives that create a lasting impact in the local community. The purpose of the grant program is to support nonprofit projects that address emerging or critical needs affecting women and/or children in Wake County. These initiatives must demonstrate a high potential for measurable success and sustainable impact beyond the grant period. WGN prioritizes organizations and projects with a clear ability to continue operating without ongoing grant support and those that represent innovative or scalable responses to community challenges. The grant application process is conducted through the North Carolina Community Foundation’s online system. Applicants are required to read and follow the grantmaking guidelines prior to submission. First-time applicants must complete Training Module I to create a user profile, while returning applicants can log in with existing credentials. Training Module II guides users through the application submission process. Noncompliant applications will be deemed ineligible for funding. Eligibility is limited to organizations that provide direct services to women and/or children in Wake County and that hold tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or are classified as a unit of government. Organizations must not engage in discriminatory practices and may not be religious entities serving exclusively sectarian purposes. Organizations that have received funding from WGN in the past must wait three years before reapplying. For example, organizations that received funding in 2022 or earlier are eligible to apply again in 2025. The 2025 application cycle opens on June 27, 2025, and closes at noon Eastern Time on July 29, 2025. Applications received after this deadline will not be accepted. The typical funding range is between $25,000 and $50,000, with a minimum award amount of $10,000. In the previous year, WGN awarded a total of $105,000 in grant funding. Although capital and endowment campaigns, fraternal organizations, individual applicants, projects that promote religious or political views, re-granting initiatives, and travel or conference expenses are ineligible for funding, all other nonprofit expenditures directly aligned with the purpose of the grant are generally acceptable. For inquiries related to the 2025 grant cycle, applicants are encouraged to contact Katie Crumpler. Additional resources, including community grantmaking guidelines and an overview video of WGN’s impact, are available through the NCCF platform. This grant opportunity is expected to recur annually, allowing for future engagement by eligible organizations.
