Prince George’s County Stormwater Stewardship Grant Program
This program provides funding for community-led projects in Prince George’s County, Maryland, focused on improving water quality and engaging residents in environmental stewardship.
The Prince George’s County Stormwater Stewardship Grant Program is a collaborative initiative between the Prince George’s County Government and the Chesapeake Bay Trust. This program is designed to support environmental restoration efforts and promote community engagement in stormwater management and climate resilience within Prince George’s County, Maryland. Now entering its eleventh year, the program has funded impactful, community-based projects that improve water quality, enhance green infrastructure, and advance the County’s Climate Action Plan goals. However, for FY26 (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026), the program has been officially suspended. Active projects will continue, and the program will be reevaluated in future funding cycles. The grant funds five distinct project tracks: Water Quality Implementation; Tree Canopy Outreach, Education, Maintenance, and Preservation; Community Awareness and Engagement; Illegal Dumping Data Analysis and Forensics; and an Additional Project Support Fund. Award amounts generally range from $500 to $300,000 depending on the track. Eligible projects must take place in Prince George’s County, excluding the City of Bowie. Funded activities include on-the-ground restoration such as bioretention cells, conservation landscaping, stormwater wetlands, public engagement, invasive species removal, data analysis for illegal dumping, and training for municipal staff. Certain types of projects, such as those for regulatory compliance, are ineligible. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, County municipalities and public agencies, community associations, educational institutions, watershed organizations, faith-based groups, and civic organizations. Organizations not based in Prince George’s County must partner with a County-based entity. Applications are submitted via the Chesapeake Bay Trust’s online portal. The application deadline for FY25 was December 12, 2024, at 4:00 PM EST. Applicants were advised to submit early to avoid technical delays and were offered an optional pre-review if drafts were submitted by December 5th. All proposals undergo a technical peer review process conducted by the Trust’s Technical Review Committee, which scores applications based on consistency with RFP goals, project viability, sustainability, budget justification, partnership strength, and demonstration value. Projects over $100,000 are expected to be completed within two years; those $100,000 or under should be completed within one year unless otherwise specified in the award agreement. Matching funds are encouraged but not required. Application components include eligibility screening, organization details, project scope, budget justification, supporting documents, and signed letters of commitment from partners. Awardees must maintain financial documentation, provide periodic progress reports, and submit a final report with outcome metrics. For assistance, applicants are encouraged to contact Scott Lopez, Program Officer, at slopez@cbtrust.org or (410) 974-2941 ext. 138. Despite the FY26 suspension, the program remains a key resource for sustainable community-driven stormwater solutions and is anticipated to return in future funding cycles.
