Grant Description

The Tire-Derived Aggregate (TDA) Grant Program, administered by the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), is designed to support projects that promote the use of TDA to divert waste tires from landfills, mitigate illegal dumping, and enhance the market for recycled tire products. The program addresses engineering challenges using TDA, a lightweight, cost-effective, and free-draining material derived from shredded tires. Reimbursable costs incurred after the Notice to Proceed are eligible, and work must be completed by April 1, 2028. Reimbursement will not exceed the amount specified in the Grant Agreement. Projects are not eligible if similar efforts at the same location were completed or underway within three years prior to application. The application process emphasizes completeness and compliance with technical requirements. Plans and specifications must detail project location, cost estimates, TDA type and quantity, and design analysis. All applicants must ensure site access for CalRecycle staff and contractors throughout the grant term. For landfill projects, specific limits apply on the amount of TDA used per linear foot for certain applications. CalRecycle provides technical assistance and training as an integral component of the grant. Grantees are expected to participate in required training and follow the terms and procedures outlined in the grant agreement. Applications are evaluated and awarded based on compliance with eligibility and project requirements. For questions or assistance, applicants are encouraged to contact CalRecycle at [email protected]. The grant program reiterates CalRecycle’s commitment to sustainable materials management and environmental protection through innovative reuse of waste tires.
