Animal Assistance Foundation’s Annual Grants

The Animal Assistance Foundation offers Annual Grants to support animal welfare organizations across Colorado. The program aims to enhance the care and well-being of companion animals by funding a variety of activities critical to sustaining operations and improving service delivery. The foundation operates with a focus on collaboration, community responsibility, and alignment with the organization’s mission to support humane care and services for animals in the state. These grants are divided into three primary categories: General Operating, Animal Population Programs, and Organizational Capacity Programs. General Operating grants provide unrestricted funds for ongoing operational needs such as staffing, programs, and facility-related expenses, but are only available to organizations with an established funding history with the foundation. Animal Population Program grants support services like spay and neuter, behavioral support, in-state transfers, and related services that help manage pet populations in Colorado. Organizational Capacity grants help address needs related to training, equipment, repairs, technology, and fundraising infrastructure. Eligibility is limited to organizations that are designated 501(c)(3) nonprofits, have a fiscal sponsor, or are government entities. All applicants must be physically located in Colorado and serve animals within the state. The foundation places a strong emphasis on alignment with its mission and expects applicants to demonstrate collaborative approaches and responsible communication. Organizations requiring a PACFA (Pet Animal Care Facilities Act) license must provide their license and relevant statistics. Additionally, applicants must report data to either Shelter Animals Count or the Equine Welfare Data Collective, where applicable. Certain entities are not eligible, including organizations outside of Colorado, those that import animals into the state, individuals, endowments, debt retirement proposals, and scientific or medical research. The application process opens on September 1, 2025, and all submissions must be received by 5:00 p.m. MDT on September 30, 2025. Late submissions will not be considered. Grant applications must be submitted through the foundation’s online portal. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions by mid-December, and funds will be disbursed by December 31.
