Grant Description

The America 250 North Carolina Local Grants Program supports public programs, research, tourism, and educational outreach related to North Carolina’s contributions to the Revolutionary War and the United States' development. The goal is to foster robust programs across all 100 counties in North Carolina, encouraging projects that reach broad audiences and promote local historical stories. Key Information: Minimum Request: $2,500 Maximum Request: $30,000 Application Deadline: The program is currently accepting applications. Eligible projects must begin in January 2025. Match Requirement: Tier 1 counties require a 10% match, while Tier 2 and Tier 3 counties require a 15% match. Matching funds can be in cash or in-kind contributions. Eligible Applicants: Local governments, nonprofits, and community organizations with 501(c)(3) status. Projects that highlight North Carolina’s history, culture, and role in the Revolutionary War. Eligible Activities: Public art or murals connected to America 250 themes. Wayside exhibits, markers, or historical signage. Local or online exhibits with a Revolutionary War theme. Educational outreach, including field trips, student competitions, or curriculum development. Events, such as festivals, living history programs, and tours. Application Components: Project Narrative: Describe the project’s goals, connection to America 250 themes, target audience, and team responsibilities. Budget Documentation: Use the provided template to itemize expenses, including salaries, travel, supplies, and contracts. Deliverables/Impact: Specify expected tangible outcomes of the grant-funded activities, such as installed exhibits or public events. Measurement of Success: Include methods for tracking success, such as attendance numbers, media coverage, or feedback surveys. Partnerships: Outline any partnerships with local organizations and their roles in the project. The application must include the required documents (budget, conflict of interest policy, property permissions) and can be supported by additional materials. Eligible Applicants Applicants in this program category must be local governmental entities, counties, or non-profit organizations with an IRS 501(c)3 determination letter. Applications will not be reviewed until all required documents have been received prior to the application closing date. A completed application will include clear and achievable deliverables, timeline, and measures of success in addition to other requirements listed below. Grant funds will not be disbursed until a grant agreement is fully signed and executed.
