Grant Description

The Shaping Rural Missouri Grant is administered by FCS Financial, a member of the Farm Credit System that serves agricultural producers and rural communities across Missouri. Through this program, FCS Financial supports youth leadership and community development by providing small grants to local 4-H clubs and FFA chapters. The initiative reflects the organization’s broader mission to strengthen rural Missouri by investing in young people who are actively engaged in improving their local communities. The purpose of the Shaping Rural Missouri Grant is to fund youth-led projects that create visible, tangible improvements in rural areas. Each selected club or chapter may receive a grant of $500 to carry out a community-focused initiative. Funded projects are expected to deliver outcomes that can be clearly seen or experienced by the community, such as improvements to public spaces, recreational facilities, or community gathering areas. The program emphasizes practical impact, local relevance, and youth leadership throughout the project lifecycle. Eligible projects may include activities such as landscaping at fairgrounds or parks, constructing or upgrading picnic tables and benches, building or maintaining community bulletin boards, establishing or improving recreation parks, developing roadside or nature trails, planting trees, repairing community buildings such as churches, or constructing inclusive playground equipment designed for children with disabilities. While collaboration with other community groups is encouraged, the applying 4-H club or FFA chapter must retain leadership responsibility for planning and execution. The application process requires clubs and chapters to solicit project ideas from their members, select a feasible and worthwhile project, develop a budget that accounts for time and expenses, and appoint or elect a committee of youth to lead the effort. Applications are submitted through an online system and must be completed by April 1. Proposals are reviewed and scored by a grant review team, with award decisions made during the spring review period. For the current cycle, applications opened on January 1, 2026 and will close on April 1, 2026. Awarded applicants will be notified by a local FCS Financial representative, and a check presentation and photo opportunity will be scheduled with the club or chapter. All funded projects must be completed by December 31 of the same calendar year in which the grant is awarded. The Shaping Rural Missouri Grant is offered on an annual basis and is open to all eligible 4-H clubs and FFA chapters located within FCS Financial’s 102-county service area in Missouri. Grants may be combined with other funding sources to support larger projects, although projects at the same location may only be funded for up to three consecutive years. Questions about the application process may be directed to FCS Financial at [email protected].
