Grant Description

The Jewell Schweitzer Quality of Life Grant Program is offered through the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, an established regional philanthropic institution supporting community-based initiatives across southern Missouri. This program is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents in Springfield-Greene County by targeting pressing social issues as identified in the 20th Anniversary Community Focus Report. Interested applicants can access the Community Focus Report and previous editions on the Community Focus Report website to ensure their proposals align with recognized community priorities. The primary goal of this grant program is to encourage innovative, impactful projects that address one or more of the critical β€œRed Flag” issues outlined in the Community Focus Report. While risk is not a deterrent in project evaluation, the Community Foundation welcomes inventive solutions to entrenched problems and encourages collaborative partnerships that may strengthen the implementation of proposed initiatives. Though collaboration is not required, applicants are given an opportunity to describe the role of other agencies if working jointly. Eligible applicants include nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations, government entities, school districts, and tax-exempt faith-based organizations that serve the Springfield-Greene County area. Each applicant may request up to $30,000, with total available funding capped at $120,000 for this program cycle. While there is no formal match requirement imposed by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks, applicants may include matching or leveraged funding in their proposals. These contributions, along with in-kind support or budget notations from partner organizations, are permitted and may be reflected in the budget portion of the application. Applicants are expected to complete a detailed application that includes sections on project description, primary goals, connection to the Community Focus Report, learning objectives, and a full project budget. They may also provide a budget justification narrative, outline any collaborative partners involved, and upload supporting documentation such as a 501(c)(3) confirmation letter (if applicable). Visual materials, bids, or diagrams may also be submitted as supplementary documentation. Character limits apply to each section of the application, and applicants should be mindful that these limits include spaces. The application process closes at 11:45 p.m. on September 30, 2025. The grant selection process emphasizes equity and does not tolerate discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or veteran status. Selected grantees will be announced in January 2026. As part of the compliance process, all recipients must affirm a non-discrimination policy in both service delivery and employment practices. For questions about the grant program itself, applicants should contact Ashley Fleming. Technical assistance with the application portal is available through Latesa Carter, who can be reached at (417) 864-6199.
