Grant Description

The Right Here in Botetourt County Small Business Grant Program is a local economic development initiative operated by the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors, Department of Economic Development, and the Economic Development Authority (EDA). This competitive grant program is designed to provide financial support to small businesses that are physically located and operating within Botetourt County, Virginia. The program reflects the County’s continued commitment to fostering a thriving local business community and strengthening its economy through targeted assistance. Applications for the 2025 grant cycle will be accepted from September 4 through October 17, 2025. Grant awards typically range between $2,000 and $6,000 per business. Funds will be reimbursed to grantees once documentation of eligible expenses is submitted. Final grant closeout documentation must be provided by May 13, 2026. The program intends to support at least one small business from each of the County’s five magisterial districts—Amsterdam, Blue Ridge, Buchanan, Fincastle, and Valley—although final award decisions are at the sole discretion of the EDA. Eligibility for the grant is limited to for-profit small businesses with 100 or fewer employees that are physically located and based in Botetourt County. Acceptable business structures include sole proprietorships, LLCs, partnerships, corporations, and self-employed individuals that are registered with the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) and possess a valid Botetourt County or town business license. Nonprofits are not eligible. The business must have been in full operation since at least May 1, 2025, and must be current on all taxes and in good standing with local and state requirements. Agricultural production operations are exempt from the business license and SCC registration but must provide other documentation verifying operation by the eligibility date. Eligible expenses include marketing and professional services, capital investments such as property and equipment upgrades, job creation costs, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The program emphasizes support for small businesses planning for growth, sustainability, and job creation. Applications will be evaluated on the quality and clarity of the submission, the business’s sales and marketing strategy, the potential for job creation, and the demonstrated opportunity for growth. All applications will be reviewed by Economic Development staff for eligibility and completeness. Staff may recommend grant amounts to the EDA or its review committee. Successful applicants must enter into a signed grant agreement with the EDA before receiving funds. For assistance or questions about the application process, applicants may contact the Department of Economic Development at economicdevelopment@botetourtva.gov.
