Alexandra Hallock Capacity Building Grant for Small Nonprofits
This funding opportunity provides financial support and capacity-building resources to small nonprofit organizations in the U.S. that focus on human rights, girls' and women's empowerment, and LGBTQ+ initiatives.
The Alexandra Hallock Capacity Building Grant for Small Nonprofits is a targeted initiative created to honor the legacy of Alexandra “Allie” Hallock, a respected nonprofit leader whose work supported thousands of organizations in both the United States and the United Kingdom. Offered by Cause Strategy Partners in collaboration with Tradeweb and Dolce Vita, the grant uplifts the causes that were closest to Hallock’s heart: human rights, girls’ and women’s empowerment, and LGBTQ+ issues. The grant is not only a financial award but also a capacity-building opportunity, designed to help small nonprofits build the operational and governance structures required to grow their missions sustainably. This grant specifically supports grassroots organizations that are deeply embedded in their communities. Hallock’s legacy is particularly tied to advancing social justice and empowering underrepresented voices. The grant aims to amplify the work of nonprofits that may lack the resources or exposure of larger institutions but possess deep commitment and unique insight into the needs of their communities. By offering financial and capacity-building support, the program seeks to help these organizations enhance their infrastructure and leadership, ensuring their long-term viability and broader societal impact. Three nonprofits were selected as the inaugural recipients in 2026: Girls In Gear Inc. (Montclair, NJ), Hattie B. Black Women In Progress (Sierra Vista, AZ), and Inland Oasis (Moscow, ID). Each organization represents one or more of the key focus areas of the grant, and was chosen from a competitive pool of over 400 applicants. These recipients illustrate the diversity and reach of the grant program, as well as its commitment to uplifting underserved populations through targeted, community-informed programming. Selected grantees receive a $20,000 unrestricted cash grant, allowing them the flexibility to apply funds where they are most needed. Additionally, they are provided with pro-bono consulting support from Cause Strategy Partners (valued at $10,000) and access to personalized coaching from Taproot Foundation’s Nonprofit Success Coaches. Grantees also gain permanent access to Cause Strategy Partners’ governance support platforms, including the BoardLead Nonprofit Network and BoardLearn, which are designed to strengthen nonprofit boards and leadership. The grant does not require any cost share or match, and eligibility is open to 501(c)(3) nonprofits operating in the United States for at least 12 months with annual revenue not exceeding $400,000. Organizations must align with at least one of the priority areas—human rights, women’s and girls’ empowerment, or LGBTQ+ issues—and cannot have any affiliation with employees or advisory board members of Cause Strategy Partners. This ensures an open and fair application process. Although specific application deadlines are not listed, the nature of the inaugural awards and the language on the site suggest an annual cycle. Interested organizations should reach out to the contact provided for updates on future cycles. For more information or to speak with the grant team, applicants are advised to contact Ashley Bratrud at [email protected]. The grant reflects a unique blend of financial and strategic support, and embodies Alexandra Hallock’s enduring belief in the power of small nonprofits to create systemic change.
