The California Tobacco Prevention Program (CTPP) within the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has released a funding opportunity through Request for Applications (RFA) 25-10003, titled "Empowering Tobacco Prevention Efforts in Tribal Communities." This initiative aims to fund up to six federally recognized California Tribal Governments to combat tobacco-related disparities among the American Indian population. Applicants will focus on enhancing tribal capacity and skills for implementing tobacco use prevention, engaging community members in cessation efforts, and advancing tribal policy changes aimed at reducing tobacco use.
The program, authorized by California Health and Safety Code Section 104385, will span a grant term from September 1, 2025, to June 30, 2029. Funding is sourced from Proposition 99 (1988) and Proposition 56 (2016) and totals up to $4,600,002, allowing for six projects to receive up to $766,667 each. Funding availability is contingent on legislative appropriations and Governor's budget approvals for the applicable fiscal years.
The application process begins with a release date of November 14, 2024, and submissions are due by January 8, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. PT. Prospective applicants can attend a voluntary informational webinar on November 21, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. PT, which will provide an overview of the RFA's intent and requirements and allow for written questions. Written queries will be accepted until December 9, 2024, with responses posted on the programβs Tobacco Control Funding Opportunities and Resources (TCFOR) website by December 16, 2024.
The full RFA and additional resources are accessible through the TCFOR website, with updates and webinar registration details also provided. Contact for written inquiries is available via email at CTPPCompetitiveGrants@cdph.ca.gov.
