Grant Description

The United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana provides grant funding to support innovative, sustainable ministries and community-impact programs across the state of Louisiana. The Foundation's mission is to empower churches and affiliated organizations to initiate new and acutely needed projects that align with one or more of its four focus areas: equipping clergy and laity for ministry, fostering connections within church and community, promoting innovative programming, and advancing disaster preparedness and response. The grant program welcomes applications from United Methodist Churches, UMC-affiliated ministries, the Louisiana Conference Office of the UMC, UMC-supported nonprofits, and certain non-UMC 501(c)(3) organizations with partnerships from at least two to three United Methodist churches. Methodist churches from other denominations who invest with the Foundation are also eligible. Eligible projects should demonstrate thorough planning, sustainability, and potential for broad impact. Grant awards typically range from $1,000 to $70,000. The Foundation prioritizes collaborative efforts, long-term sustainability, and projects that leverage additional funding. Funds may not be used for personnel costs, capital improvements, sustaining operational support, or personal ministry expenses. Seed funding is permitted if accompanied by a clear sustainability plan. Applications are accepted three times per year with deadlines on March 1, July 1, and November 1. All applications must be submitted online or via PDF and include required approvals and signatures. Applicants should provide comprehensive project details including goals, methodologies, timeline, budget, evaluation plans, and supporting documents. Grant recipients must submit a post-project report detailing outcomes, metrics, and financial accountability. The Foundation also offers additional support through scholarships, leadership training, event sponsorships, and disaster response funding. For further information or to submit questions, applicants may contact Britney Winn Lee, Grants Outreach Coordinator, at britneywl@umf.org or 225-346-1535.
