International Workshop Grant
This grant provides funding for collaborative workshops between scientists in the United States and Israel to address innovative agricultural challenges and promote international research partnerships.
The BARD International Workshop Grant is administered by the United States โ Israel Binational Agricultural Research and Development Fund (BARD). BARD is a cooperative initiative aimed at promoting and supporting agricultural research of mutual interest to the United States and Israel. The workshop grant program is designed to foster international scientific collaboration and identify emerging research priorities in agriculture. It supports workshops that address innovative, relevant agricultural challenges and influence future research directions, policy development, and practical applications. The primary objective of the workshop is to stimulate discussion and insight into new agricultural developments. These workshops aim to define future research directions, explore policy implications, and encourage international engagement between BARD-affiliated scientists and the global research community. Priority is given to topics such as novel water use efficiency, data-driven tools for rural food security, healthy food systems, big data applications in agriculture, and food security strategies to support a growing global population. Applicants must be scientists affiliated with public or private non-profit research institutions in the United States and Israel. Proposals are to be jointly submitted by at least one scientist from each country, ensuring binational cooperation. Participation from experts in other countries is permitted and often encouraged, and inclusion of students and early-career scientists is recommended. Proposals must clearly outline the workshop objectives, scientific background, expected outcomes, detailed participant lists, and an agenda that prioritizes interactive exchange such as round-table discussions. A complete proposal includes a cover page, narrative, CVs of the submitting scientists, and a detailed budget. Budget items may include travel, lodging, catering, equipment rental, publication costs, and fees for an organizing agency, which is required to manage logistics and finances. Cultural or sightseeing expenses must be funded independently or through registration fees. Overhead costs are not allowed. The proposal must be submitted via email by the deadline and must include all signatures. Workshops must take place no earlier than September 1 of the award year. Applications are reviewed by the BARD Technical Advisory Committee, followed by review by the Executive Director and final approval by the Board of Directors. Successful applicants are notified in May. Workshops must result in proceedings to be published, preferably in peer-reviewed journals, or otherwise submitted to BARD. A summary report is due within one month post-event and includes summaries of presentations, discussions, and recommended future research directions. The maximum grant amount ranges between $20,000 and $45,000, depending on the scope and scale of the workshop. The next application deadline is January 15, 2026. BARD encourages additional funding sources, but must remain the primary sponsor. Failure to submit required documentation may affect eligibility for future BARD funding.
