NIDDK Catalyst Award (DP1 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Research topics of interest include diabetes, metabolic disorders, endocrine biology, digestive system diseases, liver conditions, exocrine pancreatic disorders, obesity, nutrition, gut-brain interactions, microbiome-host dynamics, and the role of social determinants of health. Investigators are strongly encouraged to contact NIDDK staff to confirm alignment with the program’s goals prior to applying. Eligible applicants include U.S.-based higher education institutions, non-profit organizations, for-profit businesses, local governments, and Tribal organizations. Foreign organizations and non-domestic components of U.S. entities are not eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted by individuals (single PD/PI only), and each investigator must commit a minimum of four person-months of effort annually to the proposed project. The maximum award budget is $500,000 per year in direct costs, with a total project period not exceeding five years. NIDDK expects to fund up to six awards, committing $4.8 million in Fiscal Year 2026.
