Mass Cultural Council’s Creative Experiences Grant
This grant provides funding for arts, humanities, and sciences projects in Massachusetts, supporting organizations that create accessible cultural experiences for the public, especially in underserved communities.
The Creative Experiences grant program is administered by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency committed to advancing the arts, humanities, and sciences across Massachusetts. With a mission centered on equity and cultural vitality, the Council supports organizations, schools, and municipalities that aim to enrich their communities through accessible, inclusive, and impactful cultural experiences. The program is part of the Council's broader effort to foster a diverse and equitable creative ecosystem throughout the Commonwealth, especially among historically underfunded and underrepresented communities. Creative Experiences offers one-year grants in the amounts of $2,500 or $5,000 to fund projects, festivals, residencies, or other cultural activities occurring between July 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027. Funded experiences must occur in Massachusetts, be publicly accessible or targeted toward a specific community, and be inclusive of people with disabilities. The $2,500 tier supports experiences that incorporate the arts, humanities, or sciences and meet a minimum project budget of $2,500. The $5,000 tier is reserved for experiences whose primary purpose is producing, presenting, or facilitating cultural content, with a minimum project budget of $5,000. Eligible applicants include a broad range of Massachusetts-based entities: nonprofit organizations registered with the state or IRS; for-profit entities such as C Corporations, S Corporations, LLCs, and partnerships; creative businesses with a qualified fiscal agent; public and private schools; government entities; and unincorporated groups with a fiscal agent. Fiscal agents must be tax-exempt, registered to operate in Massachusetts, and must be established prior to application submission. Organizations may only submit one application per cycle, and each distinct audience or experience may only receive funding once per year. Applications open on March 3, 2026, and must be submitted by April 30, 2026 at 11:59pm ET. Prospective applicants can access recorded information sessions, attend virtual office hours, and review sample applications prior to applying. Applications are submitted through the Mass Cultural Council’s online grants management system. Once submitted, applications undergo a review to confirm eligibility and completeness, followed by prioritization to ensure equity in geographic distribution and funding across demographic, economic, and artistic dimensions. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of August 2026. Contracting will occur between late September and October 2026. Funds will be disbursed 20–45 days after the return of the signed contract, and retroactive funding is available for projects that begin before contract execution. Grantees must submit a final report by July 15, 2027, documenting the use of funds. Grantees are also required to publicly credit Mass Cultural Council’s support and comply with accessibility and non-discrimination requirements as defined under ADA and Section 504. While there is no matching requirement, funding is limited and not all eligible applicants will receive awards. In cases where demand exceeds supply, tie-breakers will include prioritization for applicants new to the Council, BIPOC-centered organizations, and those operating in under-resourced communities. The program is expected to recur annually, with the next anticipated cycle projected for March 2027 based on current timelines.
