Grant Description

HumanitiesDC is currently accepting applications for its 2025–2026 General Operating Support (GOS) Grant. This funding opportunity provides unrestricted funds to nonprofit organizations in Washington, DC whose core mission is rooted in the humanities. The grant is designed to strengthen the overall organizational health and sustainability of small to mid-sized cultural nonprofits that contribute to the city’s dynamic humanities sector. Eligible applicants must be nonprofit organizations with a documented humanities-focused mission and an annual operating budget under $2 million. The maximum award available under this grant is $25,000. These unrestricted funds can be used to support any aspect of the organization's operations, including staffing, programming, facilities, or administrative needs. Applications must be submitted no later than May 1, 2025, at 5:59 PM EST through the HumanitiesDC online grant portal. The grant period begins on July 1, 2025, and runs through April 30, 2026. A Request for Proposal (RFP), detailed application questions, grant portal login, instructions, and FAQs are available online to support applicants throughout the submission process. To assist applicants, HumanitiesDC offers a recorded grant workshop that covers the application and review process in detail. In addition, prospective applicants can schedule 30-minute one-on-one office hours with a member of the grants team to discuss their project’s alignment with the program or receive assistance with using the grants portal. This support is available to ensure accessibility and readiness for all interested applicants. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the RFP and participate in information sessions or office hours to enhance their submission.
