Energy Efficiency Trust Fund Grant Program

The Energy Efficiency Trust Fund Grant Program, previously known as the Low Income Residential Energy Efficiency Grant Program (LIREE), provides funding to public housing authorities, local governments, and nonprofit organizations for implementing energy efficiency improvements in single-family or duplex residential properties. These properties must be in areas of environmental justice concern and occupied by residents receiving state or federal housing assistance. The program supports projects like insulation, window replacement, HVAC upgrades, and appliance replacement. Funding is on a first-come, first-served basis, with awards ranging from $25,000 to $500,000. Projects must have been identified in an energy efficiency audit conducted within the last 5 years.

The Illinois EPA Office of Energy will accept applications from public housing authorities, units of local government (municipalities, counties, and townships), or nonprofit organizations responsible for management of residential properties in the State of Illinois located in an area of environmental justice concern.
