Program Intent: The Power to Play grant program aims to expand opportunities and increase student participation in arts and athletics programs. This year, grant funding can be used to help replenish revenue loss in arts or athletics departments due to COVID-19-related restrictions.
Award Details: The grant program offers two types of grants - athletic grants and artistic grants. Athletic grants can be used for purchasing sport-specific equipment/uniforms, coaching supplements, payment of expenses (referees, umpires, tournament entry fees), and improvement of sports venues. Artistic grants can be used for purchasing new uniforms for dance teams or choir, equipment (instruments or production equipment), and significant reduction of annual fees. Grant amounts are not specified.
Eligibility: The grant application is open to middle schools and high schools only. Schools must have an overall financial need, determined by having 50% or more full-time students receiving free or reduced-price lunches or being a Title I school. To apply for the athletic grant, schools must be a member in good standing of AHSAA (Alabama High School Athletic Association).
