The Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut offers Environmental Grants to benefit the 42 towns within its service region. These grants recognize the interconnectedness of environmental health and community well-being and aim to preserve and protect natural resources while addressing environmental justice. Applications are accepted from November 1, 2024, to January 10, 2025, with grant awards announced in early spring.
Priority is given to programs that preserve environmentally significant lands, waterways, and wildlife habitats for the benefit of ecosystems and local communities. Programs that engage youth, particularly youth of color, in environmental education to nurture the next generation of environmental stewards are also emphasized. Additionally, the program seeks to address environmental justice, ensuring equitable distribution of environmental benefits and meaningful community participation in decision-making.
Eligible applicants must demonstrate a focus on collaboration, regional scope, systems change, and evidence-based approaches. Preference is given to initiatives serving lower-income communities, addressing societal inequities, and incorporating input from clients, consumers, and youth in planning. Programs must have measurable outcomes and aim to achieve long-term, positive environmental and social change.
Grant funding is available for $10,000 to $50,000, supporting existing programs, new initiatives, special projects, public policy efforts, general operations, and capacity building. A limited number of multiyear grants may be awarded, but applicants must discuss these in advance. Organizations new to the foundation or proposing new programs are required to contact Jennifer OโBrien, Program Director, at JennOB@cfect.org or 860-442-3572 before applying to ensure alignment with grant priorities.
The foundation encourages organizations to review the General Eligibility Criteria for Grants and prepare proposals that align with the programโs goals. This funding opportunity supports efforts to protect the environment while promoting equity and community participation across the region.
