Temper of The Times Foundation Grants
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations in the U.S. for media campaigns that promote the conservation of native wildlife, plants, and ecosystems.
Temper of the Times Foundation was established in 1997 with the aim of utilizing traditional marketing techniques to support environmental conservation and restoration in the United States. The Foundation recognizes that many environmental nonprofits have limited resources for advertising, which can be a critical tool for raising public awareness and support. To bridge this gap, the Foundation funds media campaigns that promote the conservation of native wildlife, plants, and ecosystems. The Foundation provides grants specifically for nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations. These grants range from $5,000 to $15,000 and are intended to support projects that demonstrate measurable conservation outcomes. Funded activities may include producing and distributing print, radio, or television advertisements, as well as pamphlets, books, press packets, or videos. However, the Foundation restricts funding from being used for newsletters, staff salaries, lobbying, political campaigns, or general organizational support. Applicants must submit a proposal consisting of up to five pages that outlines the organization’s details, the project’s goals, a work plan including creative elements where applicable, a detailed budget, evidence of feasibility, and anticipated outcomes. Proposals must be submitted as a single PDF via the Foundation’s Apply page, with specific formatting instructions for file naming and size limitations. Applications in Microsoft Word format are accepted if they are under 1 MB. Applications are reviewed based on ecological importance, urgency of the issue, creativity and detail in the proposal, expected impact, and the applicant’s track record. Projects with immediate and measurable effects on wildland conservation are prioritized over those that are purely educational. The Foundation operates on a recurring grant cycle with a fixed annual deadline of December 15th. If the date falls on a weekend, applications are due the following Monday. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions approximately six weeks after the deadline. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the deadline, meaning early submission is permitted and encouraged. For questions or submission confirmation, applicants may email the Foundation at temperfund@igc.org. Phone inquiries are not accepted due to limited staff availability.
