Iredell County Community Foundation Grant
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations and educational institutions for innovative projects that improve education, human services, and mental health for residents of Iredell County, North Carolina.
The Iredell County Community Foundation, a regional affiliate of Foundation For The Carolinas, offers an annual competitive grant program designed to support nonprofit initiatives that significantly enhance the well-being of Iredell County residents in North Carolina. Founded in 1989, the Foundation serves as a hub for philanthropic efforts by connecting donors, local leaders, and nonprofits to create lasting, positive change. The Foundation’s primary goal is to foster a stronger and more vibrant community through strategic investment in projects that tackle some of the region’s most pressing issues. The grant program focuses on projects within three key investment areas: education, human services, and mental health. It is designed to provide one-time funding for the initiation of new programs or services. Although the typical maximum award is $20,000, larger requests may be considered for projects demonstrating exceptional impact on the county’s residents. Proposals are expected to show strong collaboration with other organizations, a clear path to sustainability, and measurable outcomes. The review process places a high value on evidence-based planning and long-term potential. Applications must be submitted through the Foundation For The Carolinas’ online grant portal. The grant cycle for 2026 opens on March 2 and closes on March 27 at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The system does not accept late submissions. Only one application per organization is allowed per cycle, and award notifications will be distributed by email in May. Due to high demand and limited discretionary funds, the Foundation does not offer feedback on declined applications. Eligibility is limited to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, congregations, and governmental bodies. Projects must directly serve Iredell County residents. Organizations without formal nonprofit status may apply through a fiscal sponsor that meets eligibility requirements. Faith-based organizations without 501(c)(3) status may still qualify based on IRS guidelines outlined in Publication 1828. Applicants are encouraged to consult with Foundation staff to clarify eligibility. Funding restrictions are clearly defined. Grants will not be awarded for capital campaigns, debt repayment, general operating support, or previously incurred expenses. Additionally, projects that promote religious or political views or include lobbying activities are ineligible. The Foundation aims to ensure the integrity of its process by enforcing a conflict-of-interest policy and discouraging direct lobbying of board members. Successful applicants will be required to submit a final report documenting the use of funds and evaluating project outcomes. These reports are submitted online and are necessary for continued eligibility in future grant cycles. For assistance or questions about the program, applicants should contact Nia Scarboro, Board & Grants Specialist, via email at [email protected] or by phone at 704.973.4504.
