Grant Description

The Archstone Foundation has launched its 2025 Capacity Building Request for Proposals (RFP), which opened on July 9, 2025. This annual grant initiative supports nonprofit organizations that serve older adults across California. Archstone Foundation is a private foundation focused on enhancing the health and well-being of older Californians. Their Capacity Building Program aims to help organizations strengthen their internal operations and sustainability, with a focus on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI). Grants of up to $50,000 are available for a one-year period to nonprofits dedicated to improving access to health and social services for older adults. Funding must be used for internal improvements, not for existing client-facing services or general operating costs. The RFP is designed to improve organizations’ internal systems, including IT infrastructure, operations, evaluation capabilities, strategic planning, and community mobilization. Applications must focus on one project type only: Internal Operations, Technology Improvements, or Community Mobilizing. Eligibility is limited to nonprofit organizations operating in California that directly serve older adults and have not previously received a Capacity Building grant. Each organization may submit only one application per year. Interested applicants must first complete a screening questionnaire by July 23, 2025. Those deemed eligible will be invited to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) by August 21, 2025. Selected applicants will be asked to submit a full proposal by October 17, 2025. Grant recipients will be announced on December 2, 2025, with the funding period running from January 1 to December 31, 2026. Applicants invited to submit an LOI must provide a project title, requested amount, project budget, and duration. Additional components include an organizational description with demographic details of those served, a one-page project description outlining the rationale and intended impact, two to three SMART goals and objectives, and a high-level budget narrative. A preliminary line-item budget using the foundation’s template is also required. Due to high demand for these grants, Archstone Foundation has partnered with Catchafire to offer additional capacity-building resources. This online platform connects nonprofits with skilled volunteers in areas like strategic planning, marketing, and IT. Organizations may apply for this support independently of the grant application process. For questions and to schedule office hour appointments, applicants may contact Kimberly D. Williams, Administrative Assistant, at archstone@archstone.org or (562) 590-8655. The foundation is located at 2436 East 4th Street, #300, Long Beach, CA 90814.
