Helpusadopt.org Grant Program
This program provides financial assistance to individuals and couples in the U.S. who are adopting a child, helping to cover the final costs of domestic, international, or foster care adoptions.
Helpusadopt.org is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides financial support to individuals and couples across the United States who are in the process of adopting a child. Established with the mission to remove financial barriers to adoption, the organization is committed to helping a diverse range of adoptive families regardless of race, religion, gender, marital status, sexual orientation, or ethnicity. It promotes inclusivity and aims to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent families from completing their adoption journeys. The Helpusadopt.org Grant Program provides awards of up to $30,000 per applicant, paid directly to licensed adoption agencies or attorneys. These grants are need-based and designed to assist with the final costs associated with domestic, international, or foster care adoptions. Importantly, they are not intended to fund the early stages of adoption but rather to enable families to finalize and bring their children home. Awards are not made for embryo, step-parent, or second-parent adoptions, and contested adoptions are ineligible. Reimbursement of past expenses is not allowed; funds must be applied to outstanding or future fees. Applicants must meet several objective criteria to be eligible. At least one applicant must be a U.S. citizen currently residing in the U.S. or using a U.S.-licensed adoption provider. A completed home study is required, and applicants must not be simultaneously pursuing infertility treatments. The program prioritizes individuals or couples who have not yet had children, though those with children may still apply. Applicants must demonstrate significant financial need and a clear commitment to moving forward with adoption, regardless of grant outcome. Former recipients may apply again if pursuing a new adoption. Applications are submitted online through the organization’s application portal. The platform allows applicants to save their progress, though incomplete forms will be deleted after six months. Applicants must submit all required materials by the stated deadline for their application to be reviewed. The grant selection committee evaluates each completed application based on demonstrated financial need and the strength of the personal statement. Due to the volume of submissions—typically 300 per cycle—and the award range of $1,000 to $30,000 per grant, only 25 to 30 applicants are selected each round. The average grant award is around $10,000. Helpusadopt.org holds six grant cycles per year, making awards at the end of each award month. Each cycle awards approximately $300,000 in total. Applications must be fully completed, including supplemental documents such as the home study and financial records. The application process is entirely electronic, and no paper, faxed, or emailed submissions are accepted. If a prior grant has been received from another organization, applicants remain eligible but must disclose the details in their submission. The program maintains a strict privacy policy and does not require social security numbers. All submitted documents are destroyed after each cycle. There is no application fee, and Helpusadopt.org does not offer additional services beyond grant funding at this time. For questions or additional information, applicants are directed to email [email protected].
