Forsyth County’s Community Grants program provides annual funding to nonprofit agencies delivering community services to residents of Forsyth County, North Carolina. Administered by the County and governed by the Board of County Commissioners, the program supports initiatives that align with five key policy priorities: safety, health, education, cultural enrichment, and economic opportunity. Funding is approved annually as part of the County’s budgeting process and is contingent upon availability and the discretion of the Board.
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that are in good standing with the IRS and registered with the North Carolina Secretary of State. Applicants must provide services in Forsyth County and use awarded funds solely for activities that benefit Forsyth County residents. Funding is issued on a reimbursement basis unless a financial hardship advancement is pre-approved. All applicants must demonstrate their capacity to meet reporting and compliance requirements.
The FY27 application window opens on October 13, 2025, at 8:00 AM and closes on November 30, 2025, at 11:59 PM Eastern Time. Applications must be submitted through the County’s Community Portal. A recorded information session is available to guide applicants in preparing submissions. Required materials include an organizational overview, proposed program description, implementation timeline, collaborative partnerships, performance metrics, and a detailed project budget. Supporting documentation such as IRS status, audited financial statements, a board list, and a conflict of interest policy must also be submitted.
The review process spans several months. A public hearing on the proposed budget will occur in June 2026, with the final adoption of the FY27 Budget Ordinance anticipated between June 8 and June 22, 2026. Award notifications will be issued on or before July 1, 2026, which also marks the start of the performance period. Funded projects will operate through June 30, 2027.
The Community Grants program is recurring and reopens each year around mid-October. Awarded amounts vary significantly, with past distributions ranging from as low as $2,500 to over $300,000, depending on the program scope and community impact.
