PalmettoPride Tree Grant
This program provides trees and cleanup supplies to South Carolina organizations for beautifying public spaces and promoting community pride.
The Tree Grant offered by PalmettoPride is a non-monetary award program that provides trees and cleanup supplies to organizations in South Carolina to support beautification efforts in public spaces. Designed to enhance public access to green environments and promote community pride, the grant facilitates environmental improvements by donating tree species suitable for various regions of the state. Trees must be planted in public areas such as parks, schools, churches, and neighborhood entrances that are accessible to all residents. Eligible applicants include litter control organizations, beautification groups, government entities, nonprofit organizations, schools, and neighborhood associations operating within South Carolina. Projects located in South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) rights-of-way must receive prior approval and conform to native planting standards to ensure sustainability. All grantees must comply with the Tree Grant Maintenance Agreement and use the PalmettoPride logo on related promotional materials. Prior approval of printed materials is required. Applications must be submitted between August 1 and September 15 each year. The award announcement is scheduled for October 1, and awardees must collect their trees from the South Carolina Department of Correctional Horticulture Facility in Columbia on October 16. The grant period spans one calendar year. Recipients are also required to register a cleanup event during the SC Sweep campaign in March, report their results online by April 15, and submit a final summary report by September 30. Applicants must include a brief narrative describing the landscaping project, along with a landscaping plan or annotated photos of the intended site. The tree species offered include Crape Myrtle, Dogwood, Nellie Stevens Holly, Pin Oak, Red Maple, and Thuja Green Giant. All trees are provided in five-gallon nursery pots and are between two and six feet in height with a diameter of 1 to 1.5 inches. In addition to trees, PalmettoPride supplies litter cleanup kits, cigarette bin receptacles, monofilament bins, signage, tarps, and PalmettoPride-branded trash bags at no cost to grant recipients. Questions regarding the grant may be directed to Sherryl Jenkins, the PalmettoPride Grant Program Manager, via email or phone.
