This funding opportunity supports U.S. institutions in developing citizen science projects that engage the public in space and Earth science research to further NASA's mission.
The ROSES 2025: F.9 Citizen Science Seed Funding Program, offered by NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD), aims to support research and development in space and Earth sciences through citizen science initiatives. The program funds projects that engage the public in scientific research to advance NASA’s mission. Eligible applicants must be affiliated with U.S. institutions, though international organizations may participate under specific non-exchange-of-funds agreements. Awards are provided as grants or cooperative agreements, with project durations typically spanning three years. The program is part of NASA’s broader ROSES 2025 omnibus solicitation, which includes multiple research elements with unique deadlines and topics. Applicants are encouraged to submit optional Notices of Intent by October 1, 2025. Proposals must follow NASA’s application guidelines and include required forms from NSPIRES. Proposers must be affiliated with an institution at nspires.nasaprs.com/ and, in general, NASA provides funding only to U.S. institutions. Organizations outside the U.S. that propose on the basis of a policy of no-exchange-of-funds; consult the NASA Proposers Guide (https://www.nasa.gov/general/grants-policy-and-compliance-team/ - section-2) for specific details. Some NRAs may be issued jointly with a non-U.S. organization, e.g., those concerning guest observing programs for jointly sponsored space science programs, that will contain additional special guidelines for non-U.S. participants. Also reference the Proposers Guide for special instructions for proposals from non-U.S. organizations that involve U.S. personnel for whom NASA support is requested.
