Property Maintenance Grant

The 2026 Property Maintenance Grant is administered by the City of Brooklyn, Ohio, to support the maintenance and improvement of single-family homes within its jurisdiction. The grant offers up to $3,500 per recipient and covers a variety of property maintenance activities. Eligible project types include driveway repair or replacement, roof and window replacements, sidewalk and siding repairs, exterior painting, garage door replacement, bathroom improvements, and other similar renovations. However, any costs that exceed the awarded amount must be borne by the homeowner. The program emphasizes the importance of addressing existing building code violations first—grant funds must be used to correct such violations before any other upgrades. To qualify for this funding opportunity, applicants must meet several eligibility criteria. The property must be the primary residence of the applicant and be a single-family, owner-occupied home. Homeowners must be current on all property and city taxes, and they must meet specified income guidelines. Prior recipients of this grant are ineligible to apply again. Additionally, the contractor performing the work must be registered with the City of Brooklyn and secure all required permits. If the contractor is to be paid through grant funds, a W-9 form must be submitted. The grant application window opens on January 9, 2026, and closes on April 2, 2026. All grant agreements must be signed and returned by April 24, 2026, and all work must be completed and certified no later than September 30, 2026. Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted. Required documentation includes three contractor estimates or a materials list if work is being completed by the homeowner, proof of income (such as the most recent IRS 1040 or SSA-1099 form with redacted Social Security numbers for all adults in the home), and clear color photographs of the project area from multiple angles. The grant is overseen by Rameel Abdulbasit in the City of Brooklyn’s Building Department, who can be contacted for questions or support. Completed applications and all required documents may be submitted via mail, email, or dropped off in person to the Building Department. Final decisions will be based on the completeness of application materials, eligibility verification, and funding availability. All applications must be submitted within the designated timeline to be considered.
