The City of Brooklyn, Ohio, offers the 2025 Exterior Home Repair Grant to support residents in maintaining the quality and appearance of their homes, thereby helping to preserve strong neighborhood integrity and property values. This grant program is designed for owner-occupied, single-family residences and provides financial assistance for exterior home repairs and improvements.
Eligible homeowners may receive up to $7,500 in funding. The grant covers only exterior improvements, and any project costs exceeding the awarded amount must be paid by the homeowner. The program mandates that all contractors be registered with the city and secure any necessary permits from the building department. If the contractor is to be paid directly, a W-9 form must be submitted.
To qualify, applicants must reside at the property being improved, be current on all property taxes, and comply with city regulations, including the requirement to first address any outstanding building code violations. Prior year recipients are welcome to apply again in 2025, but only one grant application is allowed per household per cycle. Incomplete applications will be rejected.
Applications will be accepted between March 10 and May 9, 2025. All projects funded by the grant must be completed, with required documentation submitted to the city no later than October 31, 2025. Applications can be mailed, emailed, or delivered in person to Brooklyn City Hall.
Each application must include two contractor estimates (or a materials list if the homeowner will complete the work), proof of income for all adults in the household, and at least four color photographs of the project area. Income documentation can include the latest IRS Form 1040 or SSA-1099, with social security numbers redacted.
For further details, applicants can contact Lev Kulchytsky in the Building Department at lkulchytsky@brooklynohio.gov. Applications are also available online at brooklynohio.gov or at Brooklyn City Hall.
