Grant Description

The Family and Children’s Trust Fund (FACT) of Virginia has announced a new round of Direct Services Ad Hoc Funding for Fiscal Year 2026, allocating an additional $200,000 to support the prevention and treatment of family violence across the Commonwealth. FACT operates under the Virginia Department of Social Services and has a long-standing commitment to strengthening family services and safeguarding the well-being of children and families experiencing abuse, neglect, and domestic violence. The organization serves as a statewide catalyst for family violence prevention and offers financial assistance to programs aligned with its mission. This funding opportunity provides up to $10,000 per award and is designed to support either direct services for individuals and families impacted by family violence or to enhance the effectiveness and capacity of the staff providing those services. Eligible expenditures include, but are not limited to, direct vendor payments on behalf of clients and reimbursements for program expenses. Importantly, funds are disbursed strictly on a reimbursement basis, contingent upon submission and approval of a narrative report, invoice, and supporting documentation. FACT’s Executive Director has final authority on the reimbursability of expenses. Eligibility is open to local government agencies and 501(c)(3) nonprofits operating in Virginia that are already in good standing and receiving funding from at least one of the following state agencies: the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, Virginia Department of Health, Virginia Department of Social Services, Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, or the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services. Additional requirements include the completion of a formal audit or financial review within the past three years and submission of a current IRS Form 990. Organizations that have already received a FY2026 Ad Hoc Grant for training or organizational support are ineligible. The grant is being offered in two application cohorts. The first application window runs from January 5, 2026, to February 13, 2026, with awards announced on or after February 27, 2026, and services beginning March 1, 2026. The second application window spans from April 1, 2026, to May 13, 2026, with awards announced on or after May 27, 2026, and services beginning June 1, 2026. Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with 10 awards offered per cohort. All funds must be spent within one year of the award notice. Applications must be submitted electronically in PDF format to the Executive Director of FACT, Nicole Poulin, at [email protected]. Incomplete or incorrectly formatted submissions will not be considered. In addition, recipients are expected to include the FACT logo in materials related to funded activities and recognize FACT's support on social media platforms. At the end of the grant term, awardees are required to submit a final narrative and invoice, along with a summary report addressing the number of individuals/families served, the impact of the funding, and an illustrative example of the benefit realized through the grant. A sample invoice template is available for guidance. This program operates under small purchase procedures per Virginia Code § 2.2-4303 G and H, with each individual award capped at $10,000.
