The David Prize
This grant provides financial support to innovative New Yorkers with bold ideas aimed at creating positive change in their communities across the five boroughs.
The David Prize is a unique philanthropic initiative that celebrates and funds individuals with bold visions to transform New York City. It awards five New Yorkers each a $200,000 prize, distributed over two years, with no restrictions on how the money must be used. The Prize affirms that the city’s greatest resource is its people—especially those closest to its biggest challenges—and seeks to amplify their ideas to improve life in the five boroughs. Open to anyone living or working in NYC, The David Prize supports individuals with audacious visions, demonstrated grit, and a track record of contribution to their communities. Candidates may be entrepreneurs, activists, artists, or leaders in any field. While affiliation with organizations is allowed, the Prize strictly supports individuals whose leadership and personal drive are at the heart of the proposed work. There are no sector limitations; previous winners and applicants have tackled issues in housing, food access, youth development, sustainability, arts, and more. The Prize encourages projects that are in early stages or even conceptual, and it welcomes ideas that fall outside traditional funding categories. However, it does not fund projects focused outside of NYC, team efforts, or individuals who have already received major funding or acclaim. The David Prize process begins with either a nomination (optional and always open) or a Step 1 Submission, which is the first official step toward being considered. After review, selected individuals are invited to submit a more detailed Step 2 Submission. Finalists undergo reference checks and interviews before the final selection is made. The Prize has no reporting requirements and allows winners full autonomy in pursuing their vision. Applications for the next cycle are closed until Fall 2026. Interested applicants are encouraged to prepare in advance, and nominations remain open year-round. Inquiries can be directed to the Prize team at info@thedavidprize.org.
