Flint & Genesee Small Business Hub Grant Program

The Flint & Genesee Small Business Hub Grant Program is a targeted economic development initiative led by the Flint & Genesee Economic Alliance. With financial support from the U.S. Department of Treasury and administration by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), the program aims to strengthen the economic vitality of Genesee County by directly supporting for-profit small businesses. The program offers grants tailored to businesses at various growth stages to foster resilience, innovation, and local impact. Eligible applicants include for-profit businesses located in Genesee County, Michigan. Businesses must be registered and in good standing, and they may not be franchises or nonprofit organizations. Additional eligibility requirements include having a current business plan and not being involved in bankruptcy proceedings. Furthermore, business owners must not be affiliated with the Flint & Genesee Group or appear on the Michigan State Police Sex Offender Registry, and they must be in compliance with the U.S. Patriot Act. The grant program offers tiered awards depending on the size and maturity of the business. Start-up businesses operating between one and three years may receive up to $5,000. Micro businesses with fewer than 10 full-time employees and three or more years of operations may receive up to $10,000. Small businesses with 10 or more full-time employees and at least three years of operations may receive up to $15,000. Grant funds may be used for a range of business investments including equipment, inventory, marketing, technology, licensing, and consulting services. All funds must be expended by July 10, 2026. This is a two-part application process. Applicants must first submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) by 5 p.m. on October 30, 2025. Upon completion, they must then submit the full application by 5 p.m. on October 31, 2025. To receive funding, grantees must participate in a four-week training cohort that includes both virtual and in-person sessions. They must also accommodate at least one on-site visit from program staff to demonstrate progress or grant activity completion. The Flint & Genesee Small Business Hub Grant Program is a strategic local investment in small businesses that show potential for sustainable growth. By facilitating access to funding, technical support, and structured training, the program empowers local entrepreneurs to expand capacity and drive economic impact across the county.
