Minority Teacher Development-Continuation

The Minority Teacher Development Grant aims to increase the number of minority teachers in New Jersey's high-poverty school districts by supporting programs that recruit, train, and place new educators. The grant is focused on identifying and documenting effective methods for recruiting, placing, and retaining high-quality minority teachers. The program's goals include establishing partnerships with at least one high-poverty district, increasing the number of minority teachers hired, and sharing successful strategies for placement and retention. For the second year of this two-year continuation grant, the program is open only to Kean University and Rutgers University – New Brunswick, which were selected in the first year through a competitive process. Each institution may apply for up to $250,000, with a total funding pool of $500,000 available. The grant period will run from February 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026, contingent on FY25 state appropriations. Applications are due by November 21, 2024. The continuation funding will enable the grantees to expand their initiatives, further develop partnerships with high-poverty districts, and implement and document best practices to support the recruitment and retention of minority educators in New Jersey.
