The ASPCA has launched the 2024 Hurricane Response & Relief Grants Initiative to support animal welfare and community organizations assisting animals impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. With a total funding pool of $1 million, these grants will help cover costs associated with disaster response, including sheltering supplies, animal transportation, community pet supplies, medical care, and veterinary services. Grants are available in amounts ranging from $5,000 to $50,000, though requests outside this range may also be considered.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit animal welfare organizations, municipal agencies focused on animal welfare, and other disaster response organizations supporting animal needs. Organizations must be either located in or actively responding to affected regions within Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia. Additionally, applicants must comply with ASPCA Grantee Organizational Standards, including good standing with state registration and a board structure that ensures independence. For grants of $25,000 or more, charitable registration must be active in the primary state of the granteeโs location.
Funding is restricted to specific disaster-related expenses and may not be applied toward ongoing staff salaries, regular operational costs, or facility repairs typically covered by insurance. The application period closes on December 2, 2024, at 5 p.m. ET, or when funding is exhausted, whichever comes first. ASPCA will review applications and communicate funding decisions on a rolling basis from November 4, 2024, through December 20, 2024.
Applicants are encouraged to prepare all necessary documentation before submission to streamline the application process. Further details and complete requirements are available in the downloadable guidelines provided by the ASPCA.
