Margaret Toth Fund
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations that offer services to improve the independence and well-being of individuals who are blind or visually impaired, as well as their caregivers, in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
The Toth Fund for the Blind is a grant program administered by the Greater Toledo Community Foundation, a charitable public organization serving northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan, including Monroe and Lenawee Counties. This foundation was established by local citizens with the goal of improving the quality of life for individuals and families in its service area. The Toth Fund specifically supports nonprofit initiatives that provide services for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, as well as their caregivers. The program’s objective is to fund services that promote the independence and well-being of blind and visually impaired individuals. This includes educational programming, training opportunities, and a broad range of support services. Additionally, funding may be used for prevention programs aimed at preserving vision or delaying vision loss. Only proposals that aim to enhance or support existing services will be considered; new or start-up programs are explicitly excluded from eligibility. The grant is open only to nonprofit organizations that are tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Eligible applicants must also have a proven history of delivering services to the blind or visually impaired population. Grants will be awarded competitively and should not be considered a recurring source of financial support. Only applications submitted via the Foundation’s online system will be reviewed. Applications must include a clearly articulated purpose and need statement, project implementation details, an evaluation plan, and a line-item project budget. The proposal should identify the target population and geographic region served, outline a timeline for implementation, and describe the qualifications of the staff responsible for executing the project. Evaluation metrics must align with the proposed goals and objectives. The project budget must detail both secured and anticipated funding sources along with all projected expenses. Additional required attachments include the organization's board list, IRS tax exemption letter, background and history, audited (or unaudited) financial statements prepared within the last 18 months, and the board-approved operating budget. The completed application and attachments must be submitted by 11:59 PM on September 15, 2025. Applicants will be notified of the Foundation's decision by December 31, 2025. Foundation funds cannot be used to reimburse expenses incurred before award notification. For additional information or to discuss a potential submission, applicants are encouraged to contact Renee Daley, Program Officer at the Greater Toledo Community Foundation, located at 300 Madison Avenue, Suite 1300, Toledo, OH 43604.
