Art in the Parks Fund
This funding opportunity supports individuals and organizations in Eugene to create diverse cultural events in local parks, promoting community engagement and inclusivity for historically underrepresented groups.
The Art in the Parks Fund is a grant initiative operated by the City of Eugene's Cultural Services in partnership with Parks and Open Space. Designed to invigorate Eugene's public parks with community-led cultural and artistic programming, the fund represents the city's broader commitment to inclusion, vibrancy, and equitable access to cultural experiences. Through its strategic investments, the program aims to build connections among residents, elevate diverse voices, and provide platforms for shared artistic expression. The 2026 funding cycle closed on November 12, 2025, and applications for 2027 are expected to open in October 2026. The fund offers up to $2,500 for small-scale events and up to $5,000 for large-scale events, depending on the need for a Fire Operational Permit. Supported programming can include a broad spectrum of artistic disciplines such as visual arts, music, theatre, film, festivals, and multidisciplinary cultural presentations. The 2026 cycle allocated approximately $40,000 in total, and events must take place between April 1 and October 31, 2026, in eligible City of Eugene parks, excluding Downtown Park Blocks and community centers. Locations are evaluated for suitability based on features and environmental sensitivity. Applicants must reside or be headquartered in Lane County and must match their requested funds with at least an equal contribution in cash, in-kind donations, or volunteer hours valued at the national rate. City of Eugene employees are not eligible to apply but may participate through eligible groups. Each applicant may submit up to two proposals, but only one may be awarded. Programs must ensure accessibility, either by being free or offering a portion of tickets at no or sliding scale cost. Applications were submitted online and required detailed responses aligned with selection criteria that include program purpose, community impact, applicant capacity, accessibility, sustainability practices, and a realistic and thorough budget. Events are evaluated on their ability to activate public spaces and reflect the cityโs goals around community belonging, climate action, and support for underrepresented populations. Grant recipients are expected to manage their own permits, marketing, and insurance requirements and submit final reports with photos post-event. In return, they receive not only financial support but also consultation services, waived park rental fees (from a reserved fund of $15,000), access to city equipment, and inclusion in City-promoted materials.
