Autistic-Led and Community-Based Grants
This grant provides funding to nonprofit organizations for projects that improve employment, housing, social connections, and health resources for autistic adults, particularly in underserved communities across the U.S.
NEXT for AUTISM is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of autistic adults through community-based and autistic-led initiatives across the United States. With over two decades of impact and the support of major fundraising events like Night of Too Many Stars, NEXT for AUTISM has provided funding to more than 380 projects across 172 organizations. The organization’s mission is to empower programs that create lasting change and transform the landscape for adults with autism, focusing on four main areas: employment, housing, social engagement, and health and well-being. The grant program is designed to support projects that enhance employment opportunities for autistic adults, improve living environments, foster community and social connections, and increase access to health and wellness resources. Funding is available to first-time grantees in amounts up to ten thousand dollars, while returning grantees may request up to twenty-five thousand dollars. All proposed projects must be based on evidence-based methodologies and show measurable impact, with a priority given to initiatives that serve low-income, underserved, and rural communities. Eligible applicants include U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and those with a fiscal sponsor. Programs must focus specifically on serving autistic adults in the designated four areas. NEXT for AUTISM does not fund non-U.S. organizations, nor does it support certain items such as overhead costs beyond the scope defined in the guidelines. The application process is managed through an online portal, where applicants will need to answer a set of specific questions about their organization and project, and provide supporting documentation as outlined in the portal. The 2025/26 grants cycle opens for applications on June 2, 2025, and will close on July 27, 2025. Applicants are encouraged to attend a webinar held on June 10, 2025, which offers additional guidance and Q&A opportunities. Between August 25 and September 7, a question period is available for further clarifications. Phone calls and site visits may take place from September 15 to October 10, and award announcements are scheduled for October 27, 2025. The typical duration of awarded grants, specific use of funds, and number of awards vary each cycle. The evaluation criteria include the project’s alignment with NEXT for AUTISM’s focus areas, potential for measurable impact, evidence-based approach, and the ability to address needs in underserved communities. Applicants are advised to review the guidelines and FAQs carefully and may contact the grants office for further questions. The primary contact for inquiries is the grants team at grants@nextforautism.org, with additional information available at the organization's office at 1177 Avenue of the Americas, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10036, or by phone at (212) 759-3775.
