H. Hovnanian Family Foundation Environmental Grants
This funding opportunity supports nonprofit organizations working to improve environmental resilience and sustainability in Armenia through initiatives that promote awareness, resource management, and community engagement.
The H. Hovnanian Family Foundation, a private philanthropic organization, supports initiatives that contribute to the development and prosperity of the Armenian people and the Republic of Armenia. With a legacy of providing year-round grant opportunities, the Foundation shifted its approach starting in the third quarter of 2024 to target specific focus areas on a quarterly basis. This strategic change enables more impactful grantmaking by concentrating resources on key sectors aligned with Armenia’s pressing needs and national strategies. For the third quarter of 2025, the Foundation is focusing on environmental resilience and sustainability. The 2025 third-quarter call is titled the H. Hovnanian Family Foundation Environmental Grants. This funding round aims to enhance Armenia’s environmental awareness and resilience in light of increasing environmental challenges, including climate-related shocks and unsustainable land use practices. With Armenia set to host COP17 in 2026, this grants round offers a timely opportunity to elevate national and local preparedness, education, and sustainability efforts. Funded projects are expected to address at least one of the following objectives: strengthening resilience to environmental shocks, promoting sustainable resource use, and fostering environmental awareness and innovation. Grants will support initiatives that improve early warning systems and nature-based solutions, promote biodiversity-friendly land and water use, encourage renewable energy adoption, and expand community-level environmental education and youth engagement. The Foundation prioritizes projects aligned with national strategies that demonstrate long-term sustainability, active community involvement, and potential for behavioral change. Eligibility is limited to registered nonprofit organizations, including IRS-designated 501(c)(3) entities in the United States and state-registered charitable organizations in Armenia. Applicants must have at least three years of documented program outcomes. Collaborative proposals involving public-private partnerships or international-local cooperation are encouraged. Prior grant recipients are only eligible to reapply after a 12-month period from their previous award approval. The application process begins with an online eligibility quiz. If deemed eligible, the applicant may submit a concept note on a rolling basis. Upon approval of the concept note, applicants are invited to submit a full application by email, which must be received no later than September 30, 2025. Only 20 to 25 full applications will be accepted for this funding cycle. Concept notes submitted late may not be considered if the cap is reached, so early submission is encouraged. Award decisions will be made by early October 2025. The Foundation anticipates making 10 to 12 grants, each ranging from $30,000 to $35,000, with a total pool of $320,000. There is no strict floor or ceiling beyond these averages. Reporting requirements include submission of both interim and final narrative and financial reports. Narrative reports must include multimedia content and a candid reflection on progress and challenges. For further inquiries, applicants may contact Anahit Hakobyan, Programs Manager, via email at info@hovnanianfoundation.org or by phone at +1 (732) 922-6100 (U.S.) or +374 10 520412 (Armenia).
