NOM Multimedia Arts Grant
This grant provides financial support to multimedia artists in Northampton, MA, and nearby areas to help them create innovative projects that enhance their storytelling and artistic skills.
The NOM Multimedia Arts Grant is administered by Northampton Open Media (NOM), an organization committed to fostering creative expression and media fluency within the Northampton, Massachusetts community. This grant supports innovative multimedia work, welcoming a wide array of formats such as short films (narrative, experimental, documentary), public art with multimedia elements, XR experiences including virtual, augmented, and mixed reality, as well as multimedia-integrated games, apps, theater productions, and audio-based projects such as podcasts and experimental sound art. The grant encourages applicants to think outside the confines of traditional categories. NOM provides up to $2000 per project, with a deliberate intention to fund at least one youth-led project (for applicants 18 years old or younger) and at least one project led by a self-identified BIPOC applicant. Projects must demonstrate a connection to the Northampton area, which can include the applicant residing, working, attending school in Northampton, or developing a project that is produced, shot, or performed in the area. The application process allows for flexible submission formats—written, audio, and video are all accepted. While the grant application does not prescribe specific categories or forms, applicants are encouraged to submit a thorough project pitch along with a timeline, budget, and any supporting documents such as past work samples, scripts, partnership letters, or look books. Additionally, NOM will host an in-person live pitch session on September 18, 2025, at Bombyx, 130 Pine St., Northampton, and a dedicated funding pool is reserved for projects presented at this session. Grant applications are due by 11:59pm on Sunday, September 15, 2025. Awardees will be announced in October 2025, and funded projects must be completed by December 31, 2026. NOM may request additional materials or conduct interviews with applicants as part of its decision-making process. Restrictions on funding include exclusion of finishing funds for completed work, purchasing equipment already available through NOM, funding for prior grant recipients in consecutive rounds, and submissions of more than one application by the same applicant. Equipment not currently in NOM’s inventory may be considered for purchase by NOM for loan to the applicant. All grant-supported productions must properly credit Northampton Open Media through inclusion of the NOM logo in promotional materials and specific grant acknowledgment language in the project itself.
