Long Beach Navy Memorial Heritage Association Grant
This grant provides funding for historic preservation projects in Long Beach, California, supporting nonprofit organizations, government agencies, individuals, and for-profit entities that benefit the public and align with national preservation standards.
The Long Beach Navy Memorial Heritage Association (LBNMHA) is offering grants ranging from $5,000 to $50,000 to support historic preservation projects within the City of Long Beach, California. The program is managed in partnership with the Long Beach Community Foundation, which oversees the initial eligibility screening and application processing. These competitive grants aim to advance the identification, preservation, and restoration of historically significant resources in Long Beach, including buildings, public landscapes, and archival materials. A key goal of the Association is to support projects that offer clear public benefits and demonstrate alignment with national preservation standards. Specifically, proposals must address how their activities meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, government agencies, individuals, and for-profit entities, provided the project serves the public interest in line with the Association’s preservation mission. Applicants must also operate in a non-discriminatory manner. The grant process is conducted in two phases. Phase 1 requires a Letter of Intent, which must be submitted electronically by 5:00 p.m. on September 30, 2025. This letter must include a description of the applicant and project, amount requested, key personnel, public benefit, historic designation, and a summary of funding sources. Required attachments include the IRS designation letter (if applicable) and a one-page project budget. Submissions are reviewed by the Long Beach Community Foundation and LBNMHA Board of Trustees. Only select applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal in Phase 2. Invitations will be sent by November 15, 2025, and full proposals must be submitted by December 13, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. These should not exceed eight pages (excluding attachments) and must include a cover letter, project description, organizational history, benefit to the public, work plan with timeline, and a comprehensive budget. Attachments must include a list of board members and their community affiliations. Grants are expected to be awarded in February 2026. LBNMHA prioritizes proposals that demonstrate additional funding sources, a one-year implementation timeline, and public visibility. Projects already completed, general maintenance, operating support, endowments, religious programs, or re-granting initiatives are ineligible. For questions, applicants may contact Cheryl Perry, LBNMHA Board Chair, at Cherylperry351@gmail.com or (562) 715-0804, or Tara Sievers at the Long Beach Community Foundation at tara@longbeachcf.org or (562) 435-9033.
