Legacy Youth Alliance Grant
This funding initiative provides financial support to youth-led projects and organizations serving youth in Wapello County, Iowa, focusing on educational attainment and health needs.
The Legacy Youth Alliance (LYA) grant program provides targeted funding for youth-led initiatives and youth-serving organizations located in Wapello County, Iowa. Its mission is to encourage and empower young leaders and nonprofits that are focused on making a measurable, positive impact in their communities, particularly in areas of education, health, and food security. LYA prioritizes projects that are innovative, collaborative, and responsive to local youth needs. Grants are awarded on a single-year basis, with funding requests capped at $2,500. The total pool per grant cycle is $10,000. Funding is available during two annual application windows: January 1 to January 31 and September 1 to September 30. All applications must be submitted online, and paper submissions are not accepted. To be eligible, applicants must be 501(c)(3) organizations providing services in Wapello County or school-related entities. Organizations without nonprofit status may apply using a qualified fiscal sponsor who will hold financial responsibility for the project. Qualifying projects must be primarily youth-led or deliver services to youth populations. Preference is given to efforts aligned with LYAโs funding priorities: educational attainment (especially early childhood and secondary/post-secondary levels), physical and mental health, and food insecurity. Proposals are evaluated based on alignment with these priorities, community impact, collaboration with other organizations, and the ability to leverage additional funding. Ineligible applicants include individuals, for-profit organizations, those outside the geographic region, or projects not focused on youth. LYA also does not fund political activities, sectarian religious programs, debt reduction, or event sponsorships. Supporting documents required include a 501(c)(3) Determination Letter, a letter of support from an executive official or fiscal sponsor, a detailed budget, and optionally, a video submission. Grant recipients must sign an agreement before funds are distributed and submit a final report within 12 months of award. Questions regarding the application process can be directed to Amy Nossaman, Grants Program Manager, at anossaman@ottumwalegacy.org or 641-455-5260.
