The Colorado Outdoor Equity Grant Program (OEGP) provides financial support to organizations and initiatives that aim to increase access, inclusivity, and participation in outdoor activities for youth and their families across Colorado. Administered by the state, this program is focused on addressing historical inequities by funding projects that improve representation, ensure quality recreational experiences, and promote meaningful involvement in nature-based programs.
OEGP offers grants of up to $100,000 to a wide range of eligible applicants, including nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses, K–12 schools and school districts, federally-recognized tribes, and local governments. These funds are intended to help organizations reduce systemic and logistical barriers that prevent traditionally marginalized youth from engaging with the outdoors. Projects funded through the program are expected to promote responsible recreation, offer opportunities for environmental conservation, and provide job training or career development pathways.
Priority is given to initiatives that serve low-income youth, racially and ethnically diverse populations, American Indian and Native youth, LGBTQ+ youth, and youth with disabilities. The program supports both community engagement and workforce development by funding projects that link outdoor equity with leadership, skill-building, and long-term access to nature.
Applicants are encouraged to propose programs that incorporate culturally relevant practices, community-based partnerships, and mentorship components. The aim is not only to expand access but also to create lasting connections to Colorado’s natural resources and outdoor spaces.
The grant application period opens annually in April and closes in June. While the current cycle is closed, interested organizations are advised to prepare for the next round by reviewing past program guidelines and aligning their project goals with the program’s equity and inclusion objectives.
