Grants to Strengthen and Uplift LGBTQ+ Communities
This funding opportunity supports organizations that provide essential services and programs to uplift and empower rural and underserved LGBTQ+ communities across the United States.
The Gamma Mu Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is dedicated to empowering LGBTQ+ communities, particularly in rural and underserved areas across the United States. The foundation provides funding through its annual grant program to organizations working at the intersection of health, education, social services, and advocacy. The Foundation prioritizes initiatives that directly impact LGBTQ+ individuals, especially youth, seniors, and those affected by discrimination, bullying, or health challenges such as HIV/AIDS. The organization aims to foster inclusive, equitable communities where LGBTQ+ individuals can thrive. Grant funding from the Gamma Mu Foundation is organized into three core program areas: Community Support Services, Public Education and Research, and HIV and Health Programs. Community Support Services cover activities designed to empower rural and underserved LGBTQ+ populations, including youth and seniors, and promote inclusion. Public Education and Research grants support awareness-raising and evidence-based advocacy for LGBTQ+ issues. HIV and Health Programs address the specific needs of individuals and families impacted by HIV and related health conditions, including mental health and aging, through outreach and support services. Funding is strictly limited to U.S.-based nonprofit organizations, with a particular focus on those serving rural populations as defined by the USDA. The foundation explicitly excludes several funding categories, such as capital campaigns, construction projects, endowments, general operational expenses not tied to a specific project, political or religious initiatives, non-U.S. entities, and payroll costs unless directly associated with executing the funded project. These exclusions ensure that grant funds are directed toward mission-aligned and impactful activities. The Gamma Mu Foundation operates an annual grant cycle. The process begins with the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI), open from January 12 through March 31. Only selected organizations from the LOI stage are invited to submit a full proposal. Proposals undergo review by the Grants Committee, which may include site visits and additional information requests. Recommendations are then made to the Board of Directors, with funding decisions finalized by the end of August. Notifications are sent out shortly thereafter, and funds are distributed in two installments: 50% in August/September and the remaining 50% in March/April of the following year. This structured disbursement supports sustained project delivery throughout the funding year, which runs from October 1 to September 30. Award amounts for each grant cycle can reach up to $15,000, providing vital support for small and mid-sized community organizations. While there is no formal cost-sharing or matching requirement, applicants must align with the foundation’s priorities and demonstrate a strong capacity to deliver services or programs that contribute meaningfully to LGBTQ+ well-being. Organizations are encouraged to review the foundation’s program focus areas and funding restrictions carefully before applying. In preparation for the grant cycle, informational webinars are held to provide guidance to prospective applicants. For 2026, webinars are scheduled on February 17 and March 17, each from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. CST. For questions or additional information, applicants may contact the foundation via email at [email protected]. The Gamma Mu Foundation continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening grassroots LGBTQ+ organizations by affirming their missions and enhancing their reach through targeted financial support.
