Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Fellowship
This grant provides financial support to U.S. academic institutions for gastroenterology fellowship programs focused on training and research in inflammatory bowel disease, with an emphasis on diversity, equity, and innovative healthcare solutions.
The 2026 Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Fellowship – United States is a competitive grant opportunity offered by Pfizer to support gastroenterology fellowship programs focused on IBD across U.S.-based academic institutions. Administered through Pfizer’s Global Medical Grants program, this initiative seeks to advance training and research in inflammatory bowel disease while emphasizing principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The program provides salary support for one fellow per institution for a one-year term, with up to $80,000 in grant funding awarded directly to the institution rather than to individuals. This fellowship is designed to target institutions with a strong focus on clinical training, research, and healthcare equity, especially in regions experiencing workforce challenges related to gastroenterology and IBD care. Institutions applying for the fellowship are expected to provide robust mentorship and development opportunities to fellows, and are strongly encouraged to embed health equity and social determinants of health into the training. The program aims to support innovation in areas such as intestinal ultrasound (IUS), AI-assisted endoscopy, and machine learning applications to enhance the standard of care for patients with IBD. Applicants must be U.S.-based accredited academic institutions that operate fellowship programs aligned with the goals of the RFP. The fellow must be a U.S. worker (e.g., U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) or hold a visa that permits employment in the United States. The fellow must also hold an M.D. or equivalent degree and either be a recent graduate of an accredited internal medicine residency program, a current second or third-year GI fellow, or a recent graduate committed to a career specializing in IBD. Applications must not include the name of the proposed fellow, and all activities funded must remain independent of Pfizer’s commercial interests. The funding strictly covers salary and fellow benefits only, excluding any overhead or indirect costs. Clinical hours supported through the grant cannot be billed as patient care, and research activities must remain independent—excluding any evaluation of pharmaceutical products or basic science studies. Six fellowships are expected to be awarded. Applications must be submitted via the CyberGrants platform by April 1, 2026, at 11:59 PM EST. Submission requires use of Pfizer’s official proposal template and a completed online application through the specified portal. The anticipated award notifications will be sent in May 2026, and funded projects are expected to begin in July 2026 or later. Projects must conclude one year after the start date. Applications that do not adhere strictly to submission instructions will be disqualified. Proposals will undergo evaluation by an expert review panel composed of professionals with advanced clinical or academic backgrounds. Selection will be based on factors such as fellowship goals, training and mentoring structure, focus on population health, and commitment to equitable care. Applicants may be asked for clarifications during the review process and will receive notifications via email. For questions, applicants may contact Talita Honorato-Rzeszewicz, the grant officer managing this RFP, via email. This fellowship reflects Pfizer’s broader commitment to supporting independent, community-driven initiatives aimed at advancing medical knowledge and improving patient outcomes, particularly in areas of unmet need like IBD.
