The NIDCD Research Dissertation Fellowship for Au.D. Audiologists (F32) supports individuals pursuing a research doctorate (Ph.D.) in biomedical, behavioral, or clinical sciences while enhancing their potential to become independent researchers. This funding opportunity is designed to provide structured, mentored training for audiologists with an Au.D. degree during the dissertation stage of their research doctoral program. The fellowship focuses on advancing knowledge in areas relevant to hearing, balance, speech, and language disorders, aiming to strengthen the scientific foundation of audiology and foster innovative research in hearing health care. Applicants must propose a dissertation research project in a scientific field related to NIDCD’s mission and a training plan that enhances their research skills and career development. The training is expected to include robust research design, data analysis, publication opportunities, professional development, and collaboration within the scientific community. The research plan must clearly demonstrate the need for the proposed training, the anticipated value of the mentorship, and how it aligns with the applicant's long-term career goals. While candidates are not permitted to lead independent clinical trials, they may gain experience in trials conducted by their sponsors. The fellowship supports up to three years of postdoctoral research training with stipends, tuition, fees, and an institutional allowance covering costs like health insurance, research supplies, and travel to scientific meetings. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals, or permanent residents and must be enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the time of application. The program also allows training abroad if scientifically justified. Applicants must identify a qualified sponsor (or sponsor team) who will provide mentorship and supervision. Applications are submitted through NIH systems, following specific guidelines for format, required elements, and deadlines. Eligible organizations include public and private higher education institutions and certain nonprofits. Foreign organizations are not eligible to apply; however, foreign components of U.S.-based organizations may participate. Costs for indirect expenses are not included, as administrative costs are covered under the institutional allowance.
