Organizations that operate outside this geography, even if working within the foundation’s portfolio themes, are not eligible for funding. The application process begins with registering in the foundation’s online portal, where applicants can submit a Letter of Inquiry if they are new to the foundation or requesting funding for a new initiative. This LOI is reviewed to determine alignment with the foundation’s mission and focus areas. If invited to proceed, applicants complete a full application. There are no fixed deadlines, but the foundation recommends applying at least four months before funding is needed. Final reports are required before grantees may reapply. The foundation’s financial guidelines recommend that it not fund more than 25% of a project’s total budget or more than 10% of an organization’s annual operating budget. It does not support event sponsorships, scholarships, endowments, lobbying, or individual funding. The foundation values mission alignment and measurable impact in its review process, with a preference for programs that are deeply embedded in the local community and have a track record of serving children and youth in need.
