Grant Description

The Kansas Tourism Attraction Development Grant Program supports the creation and enhancement of sustainable, market-driven travel experiences throughout Kansas. Administered by Kansas Tourism, a division of the state government, the program is designed to attract new visitors, influence travel decisions, and stimulate economic growth through capital investments, job creation, increased tourism revenue, and higher visitor engagement. The fund is intended for projects that offer long-term value and impact to Kansas’s tourism infrastructure and appeal. Eligible projects under this program include the construction of new attractions, enhancements to existing attractions, and the development of exhibits that enrich visitor experiences. Qualifying sites must have substantial tourist interest and may include historical, cultural, scientific, educational, recreational, or architecturally significant properties, or natural areas suitable for outdoor recreation. Examples range from museums and resorts to natural parks and interactive experiences. Grant funding may cover up to 40% of total project costs, with applicants required to contribute a minimum of 60% in matching funds through bank loans, federal grants, sponsorships, or in-kind contributions. In-kind contributions must be substantiated and cannot exceed 50% of the applicant’s match. Ineligible uses include normal operational expenses, general maintenance, promotional brochures, travel or trade shows, and community centers primarily serving local residents. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations (501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6)), for-profit businesses, government entities at all levels, and Native American tribal governments. The program is open to Kansas-based entities and focuses on local and regional impact. Required documentation includes a tax clearance certificate, current good standing status, a signed W-9, and various state policy compliance forms. Applications requesting more than $100,000 must also submit the Israeli Anti-Boycott Form. The current application cycle opens on October 30, 2025, and closes at 11:59 PM on January 9, 2026. Required attachments must be submitted through the application portal, and late or incomplete submissions are not accepted. The program provides templates and resources, including a budget form, an economic impact analysis, and example application questions to assist applicants. For more information or assistance, applicants may contact Babette Dixon, Research & Contracts Manager at Kansas Tourism, via email at [email protected] or by phone at 785-496-0230. The program is offered on a recurring basis, and updates to guidelines may be posted ahead of each cycle.
