The community foundation provides grant opportunities for various entities, including 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, government agencies, and religious organizations. Those not fitting these categories are encouraged to partner with a qualifying fiscal agent or contact the foundation to discuss project eligibility and any additional requirements. Grants are generally limited to geographic areas served by the foundation.
Eligible funding includes projects or programs that benefit the community, seed money for new initiatives, capacity-building efforts like professional development or equipment purchases, capital improvements, and endowment funds for specific initiatives. The foundation does not fund incomplete, late, or incorrect applications, political projects, discriminatory practices, or debt retirement.
Grant applications are accepted during two cycles: Fall (September 15 - November 15) and Spring (February 15 - April 15). Specific funds available include the Dane G. Hansen Community Grant Fund, Health Needs for Smith County Fund, Kansas Health Foundation Fund, and Smith County Action Fund. For assistance, applicants can contact Director Aurielle Hughes or access resources like step-by-step instructions and support videos.
