Community Sleep Health and Public Awareness Grant
This grant provides funding for nonprofit organizations to implement community-focused projects that promote sleep health and improve access to sleep disorder care, particularly in underserved populations.
The Community Sleep Health and Public Awareness Grant is offered by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine Foundation (AASM Foundation), a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing sleep health through investments in people, research, and communities. The foundation’s goal is to improve sleep health by supporting innovative and impactful programs that raise awareness about sleep and increase access to sleep disorder care across diverse populations. This grant provides support for community-driven humanitarian, education, and awareness projects that improve sleep health and expand the reach of sleep disorder evaluation and treatment. Priority is given to projects targeting underserved or disadvantaged communities. The initiative welcomes a wide range of projects, including the development or dissemination of public education resources, the implementation of local models for sleep disorder care, and efforts to promote healthy sleep habits as a pillar of health. There are two categories of funding. Category I offers up to $50,000 for projects lasting up to two years, while Category II provides up to $25,000 for projects of one year or less. Indirect costs are limited to 8 percent of the total budget. Awards are structured as contracts between the AASM Foundation and the recipient organization, and funding is distributed in two payments: 90 percent upon contract execution and 10 percent upon approval of the final report. Alternate payment schedules may be considered under specific circumstances. Eligible applicants include nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations under IRS code 501(c)(3), international non-governmental organizations recognized as nonprofit in their home country and able to receive U.S. dollar payments, and individuals or for-profit entities partnering with an eligible nonprofit. Those ineligible include individuals with financial conflicts of interest, current and recent AASM Board members, and applicants from countries under U.S. sanctions. Projects that do not align with the grant’s goals or that focus on operational support or minor program expansions are also not eligible. Applications are evaluated by a grant review committee based on criteria such as demonstrated need and anticipated impact, clarity and feasibility of the project plan, dissemination strategy, and the qualifications of the project team. Proposals must use the designated project proposal template and adhere strictly to the formatting and content requirements. Proposals exceeding three pages (excluding references) or those not conforming to submission guidelines will be disqualified. Applications open June 2, 2025, and must be submitted via the AASM Foundation’s online portal by July 14, 2025, at 11:59 pm ET. Award notifications will be sent by October 30, 2025. Required deliverables include a detailed project plan, dissemination plan, and progress/final reports. For assistance or questions, applicants are encouraged to reach out early in the application process to foundation@aasm.org or by calling 630-737-9724.
