Grant Description

The William and Minnette Goldsmith Foundation, established in 1951, has a long-standing commitment to supporting charitable endeavors within Stark County, Ohio. Originating from the philanthropic vision of William and Minnette (Luntz) Goldsmith, the foundation has evolved into a pivotal grantmaking body that partners with the Stark Community Foundation to deliver annual funding opportunities to local nonprofits. Since becoming a supporting foundation of the Stark Community Foundation in 1999, the Goldsmith Foundation has continued to uphold the Goldsmiths’ legacy of community investment and civic engagement. William Goldsmith, a mechanical engineer educated at the University of Pennsylvania, was a nationally recognized authority on scrap metals. His professional trajectory led him to Canton, Ohio, where he became an executive vice president and part-owner of the Luntz Iron & Steel Co. Through his relocation to Canton, he met and married Minnette Luntz. Minnette was a prominent civic figure in the Canton area, actively involved in multiple community organizations including Temple Israel, Temple Sisterhood, Hadassah, the Canton Women’s Club, and the Canton Art Institute. Her leadership extended to her role as president of the Foundation, helping guide its philanthropic mission until her passing in 1979. William had passed earlier in 1961. The Foundation’s primary mission is to support tax-exempt private agencies, government entities, and 501(c)(3) public charities that are either located within or provide direct benefit to Stark County. Grants may be used to support a range of nonprofit functions, including partial or full funding for personnel positions within established organizations. Preference is noted for personnel roles in advancement or development. While the Foundation encourages a diverse array of proposals, it caps funding requests at $15,000 per project. Applications for the 2026 grant cycle will be accepted exclusively through the Stark Community Foundation’s online Grant Portal. The application opens on June 15, 2026, and all proposals must be submitted by the final deadline of August 7, 2026. There are no pre-application requirements such as letters of intent or concept papers mentioned. Grant award notifications are scheduled for October 2026. All applicants will be notified of funding decisions via email. Organizations that receive funding are required to complete an evaluative report at the conclusion of the grant period. This final report must include a written narrative describing the impact of the awarded funds and a financial report detailing their use. Submission of this final report is critical, as future funding eligibility is contingent upon its timely and complete delivery. Failure to meet this reporting requirement may jeopardize an organization's ability to receive future grants from the Goldsmith Foundation. For assistance or inquiries regarding the grant program, applicants may contact Grants Administrator Robyn Guedel at 234-458-2913 or via email at [email protected]. The Goldsmith Foundation continues to serve as a vital resource for local nonprofits, reinforcing the Goldsmiths’ enduring legacy of philanthropy and civic responsibility in Stark County. With annual cycles and clear eligibility criteria, the program provides a stable and focused source of funding aimed at enhancing the capacity and sustainability of nonprofit organizations in the region.
