2026 Workplace Safety Grant Program
This funding opportunity provides reimbursement for Massachusetts employers to invest in safety training programs that reduce workplace injuries and promote safer work environments.
The Workplace Safety Grant FY26 is a competitive funding opportunity managed by the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents, Office of Safety. Established in 1989, the program aims to reduce workplace injuries across the Commonwealth by reimbursing eligible employers for qualified safety training programs. This initiative is part of a long-standing commitment to support Massachusetts employers in fostering safer work environments through education and training. With a total budget of $800,000, the program provides a maximum of $25,000 per award. The grant is strictly a reimbursement model, which means recipients must cover training costs upfront and then submit invoices for reimbursement. All training must be completed by June 30, 2025, and invoices must be received by July 15, 2025. Only training conducted by Massachusetts-based providers qualifies, and it must be directly related to the employees’ work and safety. Applications are open from June 2 to June 30, 2025. Eligible applicants include private employers operating in Massachusetts who are in good standing with state Workers’ Compensation laws. Notably excluded are public agencies, police, fire departments, and those covered under federal maritime laws. The grant cannot be used to fund wages, travel, equipment, or facility overhead. Applicants must submit detailed information including company demographics, training objectives, and budget justifications. Required documents include a COMMBUYS registration, Certificates of Good Standing from the Department of Revenue and Unemployment Assistance, a W-9, and bank letter for electronic funds transfer. Application questions focus on identifying safety risks, selecting appropriate trainings, and demonstrating the connection between training and job duties. Training topics supported include OSHA 10/30, CPR, ergonomics, electrical safety, fall protection, and more. Employers must identify the number of classes, attendees, trainers, and projected costs. The platform guides applicants through each step, from contact information to budget summary. For questions, applicants can contact Maryann Falvey at safety@mass.gov. The program is anticipated to continue in future years, with the next cycle expected in June 2026.
