Jefferson Foundation Grant

The Jefferson Foundation supports charitable and educational activities that enhance the health and well-being of individuals and communities, focusing specifically on Jefferson County, Missouri. For the 2025 funding year, the Foundation has established clear guidelines that reflect its mission, with a particular emphasis on projects that address health-related needs and support underserved populations. The Foundation anticipates reviewing these guidelines annually to ensure continued relevance and alignment with community priorities. Eligible applicants include tax-exempt public charities classified under section 501(c)(3) with a designation of 509(a)(1) or (2), and government units under special circumstances. Applications are accepted for projects located in or benefiting residents of Jefferson County, Missouri. Religious organizations are eligible only if they do not discriminate based on religious preference, and funds may not be used for general operating expenses of churches. Certain types of expenses and activities are excluded, such as endowment funds, deficit financing, political activities, general administrative overhead, and event tickets. The Foundation will consider grant requests in three categories: program support, capacity building, and capital projects. Each organization may submit applications in multiple categories but will only be awarded one grant per category annually. Grants through the responsive portfolio do not limit participation in the proactive portfolio. Grant awards range from $5,000 to $250,000, although exceptions may be made at the discretion of the Board of Directors. The application process is fully online. Only requested materials will be accepted; unsolicited additions such as letters of recommendation will not be considered. Proposals must clearly articulate how the project will improve health and well-being, demonstrate community impact, and provide efficient and effective use of funds. Applications must also show clearly defined needs and outcomes. The grant cycle includes two funding periods per year, with application deadlines on February 6 for the June award and July 17 for the December award. All decisions are made by the Board of Directors during its April and October meetings, respectively. Applicants will be informed of the decision within two weeks following the board meeting. Successful applicants must sign a Grant Agreement before funds are disbursed and must be up-to-date with progress and final reports on any previous grants.
