Grant Description

The Well Foundation Fund, originally founded as the Goshen Hospital & Health Care Foundation in 1969, supports health and wellness initiatives across Goshen and greater Elkhart County, Indiana. Now administered by the Community Foundation of Elkhart County, the fund continues its legacy of enhancing access to quality health care. Over nearly 50 years, the foundation has provided over $6 million in grants to address community health needs. Each year, the Well Foundation Fund distributes approximately $200,000 in grants. Eligible projects must directly benefit Elkhart County residents and align with one or both of the fund’s priority areas: health and wellness. Grant requests must be for $1,000 or more. Proposals are assessed within a competitive cycle, and funding is not guaranteed. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charities and public entities such as schools, municipalities, government agencies, and chambers of commerce. Projects from religious organizations may be considered if the proposed program is strictly nonsectarian. Ineligible requests include those for individuals, budget deficits, political activities, post-secondary scholarships, and church buildings or grounds, except in limited cases for daycare ministries. The application opens annually and closes on September 30. Applications undergo an eight-week review process led by Community Foundation staff and the Well Foundation Fund Committee. Applicants are encouraged to first contact Program Officer Vonnie Trumble before applying. Notifications of award decisions are issued by mid-November. Grant recipients must complete a final report and may also be asked to host a site visit.
